EVELIO B. JAVIER FOUNDATION, INC.
Evelio B. Javier is remembered as a political catalyst, undaunted in his
quest to empower simple, even unlettered folks to take charge of their
lives and community, to work together for the development of the land
that was their and their fathers’. He soon recognized how the limiting
structures of centralized government stifle rather than encourage
growth. He wrote “my work was almost like creation…shaping Antique into
a province that would not only be prosperous but also truly just,
democratic and humane…”
In 1986, this simple man with simple dreams was cut down by an assassin.
But bullets meant to silence him have served, instead to advance his
vision of new politics and responsive citizenry by those who have been
committed to keep the vision alive and forge ahead on his journey.
The Evelio B. Javier Foundation, Inc. continues to pursue Evelio’s dream
of genuine public servants, empowered leaders and citizens, self-reliant
communities.
VISION:
A community of talented, creative and competitive professionals attuned
to its environment, imbued with an indomitable spirit continually
blazing new trails in helping transform communities into active partners
in local governance.
MISSION:
Empower local executives and Local Government Units, citizen leaders and
people’s organization towards public service, local autonomy and
participatory democracy.
GOALS:

Heighten
the political maturity and leadership capabilities of Philippine local
government executives

Strengthen
existing private sector support mechanisms for local executives and
local government units

Facilitate
partnership between local executives and their constituencies for local
development and political growth

Develop
the capabilities of local non-government groups towards more meaningful
and effective participation in local governance

Complement
and/or strengthen existing local and national mechanisms aimed at
promoting, establishing and/or maintaining transformational leadership,
participatory democracy, local autonomy sustainable development and
economic self-reliance.

Enrich
existing public policies and advocacies for policies necessary towards
strengthening local autonomy, sustainable development, people’s
participation and good government.
