Anti-Corruption Literacy Program

The Anti-Corruption Literacy Program was pilot-tested in Davao City last November 27 and 28, 2002. The forum conducted was entitled “Contesting Corruption by Involving the Youth.” Sangguniang Kabataan representatives and various youth groups from different schools were invited. The student-attendees came from the following schools in Davao City:

    - Ateneo De Davao University
    - University of Mindanao
    - University of the Philippines, Mindanao
    - Davao Central National High School
    - Holy Cross Davao College
    - University of Southeastern Philippines

The two-day forum aimed to achieve the following objectives:

     - To make known basic concepts, institutions and practices in anti-corruption work
     - To promote youth involvement in anti-corruption work

The main speakers and resource persons for the forum were Mr. Rodelio Manacsa (Ateneo de Manila University, Political Science Department), Ms. Kristina Pimentel (Procurement Watch, Inc.) and Mr. Fernando Mendoza (Office of the Ombudsman, Research and Special Studies Bureau).

The major achievements made in this activity were the formulation of an
Integrity Pact among the youth attendees and the setting up of an e-group (mindanao_youth@yahoogroups.com).

The e-group was set up to provide the youth attendees a mechanism by which they could continually share and exchange information among themselves. Latest development posted in the e-group was a suggestion for the Mindanao youth attendees to meet and organize themselves towards a similar objective as that of the Transparency and Accountability Network.
